Wimala Elders Home is a highly reputed non-profit organization that provides a loving home for senior citizens who need love and care. Established in 1965, the home is situated in Kalutara. With facilities to provide permanent residence to 45 elders, we are the only government-approved elderly home in Sri Lanka to receive support and assistance for maintenance and medicine requirements from Canadian Help Age (Ottawa).
Founded by Mr.& Mrs. Jimmy Jayawardana & Mr. & Mrs. G J Wickramasinghe on a land donated by Mr.& Mrs. Jimmy Jayawardana, Mr.& Mrs. G J Wickramasinghe and Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Jayasinghe, Wimala Elders Home was a family managed charity organization in the past. Today the organization is managed by a committee to take this noble cause to the next level under the leadership of Mr. Ajith Jayawardana (son of Mr.Jimmy Jayawardana), who is the current president.
Starting with only 5 members, today the home has the capacity to serve 45 members comfortably. Having come a long way from the initial steps taken by our founders, we have expanded our services while ensuring our residents a happy and joyful life coupled with independence and dignity. With the aim of helping senior citizens who cannot support themselves financially and families who face the challenge of providing good care for their elderly family members, we strive to provide a happy home where they can spend the rest of their lives in peace and comfort.
With the help of an experienced team of caregivers, we ensure that all the requirements and needs of our elderly residents are being met. While the well being of our residents is assured, they also experience a sense of community that they can belong to and thrive in. At Wimala Elders Home, we strive to maintain a high-quality living standard for our residents with the help of our management committee and generous donors for which we are very grateful.
At Wimala Elders Home, we make every effort to provide a loving retirement home for senior citizens in need. Taking on the family responsibilities at the age of 25, I’ve been a part of this cause now for over 25 years, which has given me the opportunity to experience the real problems and issues faced by elderly people who seek the services of a caregiving home such as ours. These years of experience has helped me take our organization to the next level, expanding and strengthening our efforts towards assisting elders, with the help of our management committee, after taking on the position of the president of Wimala Elders Home.
While being a distinctive mark of our family legacy, Wimala Elders Home today has created a community of generous Sri Lankans who are living in Sri Lanka as well as abroad giving them the opportunity to be a part of a noble cause. Along with the aim of providing a caring environment that is joyful as well as peaceful for elderly people, our focus is on further improving our facilities for our residents while expanding our residential capacity to help more people in need, in the years ahead.
